Maritime Week Americas 2018
From: 07 May, 2018 until: 11 May, 2018
Maritime Week Americas is the biggest, most well-attended and most popular bunkering event in the Americas.
Venue: Hilton, Panama
Address: Hilton Panamá, Av Balboa, Panamá, Panama
The shipping industry is braced for change as new regulations come into play and the global port infrastructure adapts to new trade flows, geopolitical challenges and far-reaching trade initiatives, such as China’s Belt and Road project.
Panama, through the ambitious expansion of its Canal, is witnessing directly the impact of change in the shipping sector, and Maritime Week Americas 2018 will debate how the evolving dynamics of trade and fuel regulations are transforming the marine fuels landscape in Panama and throughout the Americas.
The action-packed week comprises a full programme of key maritime events, including a major conference, training courses, a day-long excursion to the Expanded Panama Canal, a reception at Miraflores locks and other exciting networking activites.
Tuesday 8 May
There will be a day-long excursion to the Expanded Panama Canal included in the Conference price.

Wednesday 9 - Thursday 10 May
The two-day conference will focus on the most important local and regional issues from planning for the global sulphur cap in 2020 to examining fuel options and strategies, the growing acceptance of LNG as a viable alternative bunker fuel and changing patterns in fuel quality. Featuring the Petrospot Bunker Surgery - 'free' expert and legal advice, open to all participants.
Bunker Trading and Operations • Monday 7 - Tuesday 8 May
This intensive two-day course examines bunker trading and sales, price risk management, fuel supply and bunkering operations. It will cover the essentials of oil trading, cargo purchase and terminal storage, it will also cover fuel quality and availability, the use of alternative fuels, and the far-reaching impact on global bunker markets of new emissions regulations. The course includes practical exercises and tests and provides very helpful ‘real-life’ examples to illustrate the key areas covered.
Bunker Price Risk Management • Tuesday 8 May (Morning)
This half-day seminar will provide attendees with an overview of hedging tools and risk management in the oil markets, with particular emphasis on introductory swaps and options used in the oil trading business.
Bunker Dispute Resolution Workshop • Tuesday 8 May (Afternoon)
This highly professional interactive workshop on bunker dispute resolution will address the causes of bunker disputes, the resolution of those disputes when they happen and the avoidance of those disputes so that they don’t happen in the first place. It will look at how changing economic and regulatory conditions may give rise to new disputes – whether about bunker quality, quantity, delivery or payment issues – and examine ways that such disputes may be resolved.
This year MWA2018 comes back to Panama not only to celebrate the country's remarkable canal and thriving bunker business, but also to celebrate MWA's 10th anniversary.
