Event Summary

Looking at the next steps for developing integrated and modern networks for intra-city transport, the seminar assess priorities for policy going forward. It will be an opportunity to discuss how the £1.7 billion Transforming Cities Fund announced in the Industrial Strategy should be applied to achieve the aims of improving transport links and encouraging local growth within cities. Delegates will discuss policy issues around attracting public and private investment, infrastructure delivery, creating clean and decarbonised city environments, and integrating new technology. Sessions will also examine the development of large-scale projects in metro cities, alongside schemes such as the Northern Powerhouse and Midlands Engine - including discussion in areas such as light rail, bus rapid transit, underground rail, and walking and cycling facilities. Further sessions will look at plans for upgrading transportation networks in smaller cities through the competition-based awards, assessing some of the innovative approaches to boosting local connectivity and economic growth.
