Tonight's the night that the shipping industry gets to take a bow, raise a glass and makes some speeches - it's the Lloyd's List Global Awards.

As ever, competition in all the main categories will no doubt be friendly but fierce.

The full Lloyd's List shortlist is - despite the name - too long to reproduce in this news snippet but all the usual suspects are there, both as nominees and sponsors (but never both in the same category, of course!).

It will be a black tie affair at the Lancaster, London.

Last year's bash brought together more than 500 industry figures, and Lloyd's List expects that this year's showing will be even bigger.

As previously reported, Lloyd's List will be going "digital only" before the end of this year, so there is such to be some reminiscing on some of the great scoops and front page splashes that the world's oldest surviving daily newspaper has produced in the past.
