Winners announced for three Nor-Shipping awards.
The winners of three 2013 Nor-Shipping Awards were honoured today at a presentation made during the Nor-Shipping Opening Conference.
The Energy Efficiency Award (previously knows as the Clean Ship Award) went to Fjord Lines’ Stavangerfjord, the first international service passenger ferry in the world to run - as the Nor Shipping organizers put it - 'on pure LNG engines'.
The Next Generation Ship Award went to the TOTE 3100 TEU container ship. Built by General Dynamics NASSCO, the first two vessels will be delivered and enter service between Jacksonville, Florida and San Juan, Puerto Rico in 2015 and 2016. They represent the first order for LNG-powered containerships and will use a new propulsion system to improve emissions per container.
The Young Entrepreneur Award - a new gong introduced this year - went to Tor M. Østervold, the CEO of the Norwegian company ECOsubsea which has develop technology that increases ship energy efficiency and reduces operational costs, invasive species and emissions.
Nor-Shipping 2013 and Ocean Talent Camp were officially opened at the start of this week by Oslo's Mayor Fabian Stang.
Sturla Henriksen, Director General of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association, said that 'this week Oslo will be the maritime capital of the world,' adding that the organizers expect some 35,000 people from all over the world to visit Nor-Shipping this year.
